Special Guest: RCMP Assistant Commissioner Jennifer Strachan

We are truly honoured to share that RCMP Assistant Commissioner Jennifer Strachan will be attending the Expo on 17th September. She is the Commanding Officer of the “O” Division (Ontario). Here is the incredible profile (in English followed by French) of a leader that is an inspiration to youths all across Canada.

“Assistant Commissioner Jennifer Strachan assumed the role of “O” Division (Ontario) Commanding Officer in February, 2016.

Assistant Commissioner Strachan joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Vancouver B.C. on June 3rd, 1988. As a non-commissioned officer, she undertook ten years of operational postings in “E” Division, including general-duty policing and highway patrol.  In 1996, A/Commr. Strachan completed a Peacekeeping Mission in Haiti.  She also carried out administrative postings within “E” Division Human Resources, and as the Desk Officer responsible for Peacekeeping Deployment to the Former Yugoslavia while posted at International Peacekeeping Operations Branch in Ottawa.

She was Commissioned in 2002 to the role of Executive Officer to the Deputy Commissioner of Corporate Management & Comptrollership and since then her postings have included:  Officer in Charge of the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre; D/Insp in Charge of Montreal Drug Section; Officer in Charge of Operational Support Services in “C” Division; and as Officer in Charge of Operational Policy and Programs at National Headquarters.

In June of 2009, A/Commr. Strachan transferred to “O” Division and served as a District Commander, and the Division Criminal Operations Officer, prior to her appointment as the Commanding Officer.

Born and raised in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, A/Commr. Strachan has completed undergraduate and graduate studies in the field of Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa and at Royal Roads University in Victoria, B.C.

La commissaire adjointe Jennifer Strachan occupe le poste de commandante de la Division O (Ontario) depuis février 2016.

La commissaire adjointe Strachan a joint les rangs de la Gendarmerie royale du Canada à Vancouver, en Colombie-Britannique, le 3 juin 1988. En tant que sous-officière, elle a travaillé dix ans à la Division E dans des postes opérationnels, en l’occurrence au sein des services généraux et de la patrouille routière. En 1996, la comm. adj. Strachan a participé à la mission de paix en Haïti. Elle a aussi occupé des fonctions administratives au sein des Ressources humaines de la Division E et comme agente de module chargée du déploiement de la mission de maintien de la paix en ex-Yougoslavie, pendant son affectation à la Sous-direction des missions de paix internationales, à Ottawa.

Elle a été nommée officière en 2002 à titre d’officière administrative du sous-commissaire à la Gestion générale et au Contrôle. Par la suite, elle a occupé les postes suivants : officière responsable du Centre national de coordination contre l’exploitation des enfants, inspectrice-détective responsable de la Section antidrogue de Montréal, officière responsable des Services du soutien opérationnel de la Division C, et officière responsable des Politiques et Programmes opérationnels à la Direction générale.

En juin 2009, la comm. adj. Strachan a été mutée à la Division O et a occupé les postes de chef de District puis d’officière responsable des Enquêtes criminelles de la Divison avant d’être nommée commandante divisionnaire.

Originaire de la vallée de l’Okanagan, C.-B., la comm. adj. Strachan a fait des études de premier cycle et de cycles supérieurs en sciences sociales à l’Université d’Ottawa et à l’Université Royal Roads à Victoria, C.-B.”
